New AS Roma manager José Mourinho may not have managed his first match at the club yet but he has made it clear that he’s not going to lose any opportunity when it comes to targeting and trying to sign his preferred transfer targets this summer. According to reports coming from the Italian media, the Portuguese manager has reportedly identified Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Ruiz as a potential key signing and has also asked the Roma board to try and get him the player.

Ruiz, a Brazilian international midfielder, has been attracting interest from several clubs in the last few weeks particularly because of the great season he had last campaign. The midfield star shows some quality while playing for Dean Smith in the English Premier League and he has now deservedly been seen as one of the possible players that could be swapping the Premier League for another league this summer.

Just last week, reports surfaced that Roma were interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Grant Xhaka and those reports claimed that the Switzerland international star was willing to join Mourinho’s revolution at the Italian club however, at 28, Xhaka is seen as a player that has already gone past his peak and Roma are reportedly unwilling to invest in such deal.

They have now identified Ruiz, a much younger option at just 23 years of age, and there are now rumors that the Serie A side could be submitting their first official offer for the player. Ruiz would be a great addition to José Mourinho’s Roma side and with Aston Villa recently completing the signing of Norwich City star Emi Buendia, they could be willing to listen to offers for Ruiz this summer. If all the parties involved agree on the deal, the transfer could be completed before the end of July.
